Bangkok 2015 Day 1 Part 1 - Singapore -> BKK, Baiyoke Sky Hotel, Alex Fashion @ Amari Watergate, Jelly Dreams @ Central World, Greyhound Cafe @ Groove

It has been nearly 2 years since we last visited BKK! Have been missing the country a lot since then as Bangkok will always have a special place in our heart. :) Nearly 2 months since we are back from a overseas trip and now we are flying off again. It was for a different purpose this time round.

This BKK Trip  was more of a relax trip and also a trip to settle our wedding stuffs. This getaway trip came in at the most apt time because we were both so tied down with work for the whole month of July.

Our flight was around noon time hence we need not wake up too early to catch the flight. Having that being said, we will rather reach Bangkok earlier the next time round because the traffic jam can get pretty bad. Will go into it later on!

#OOTD  taken at Changi Airport Terminal 2

It sort of reminded me that it's less than 1 month to our National Day celebration before I departed.

With my travelling partner...

Happy SG50!

We had a quick brunch after checking in our luggage. We roamed around a little before boarding the plane.

Saw this huge roti prata otw to board the plane..

It was a short 2.5 hours plane ride to reach Suvarnabhumi Airport. After we landed, we quickly queue to get our passport chop. We collected our luggage and off we go to hunt for the data SIM card.

There were long queues at the various counters. It's located 1 level down from where you pass the custom and we usually choose AIS. It's our preferred network because it never fail us :) Both counters have lots of customers as compared to the last few years when we are in BKK. Seems like getting a data SIM card there is a must-have these days.

We took the 299 baht (roughly $12sgd) package which includes unlimited data usage for 7 days. It's definitely more than enough and the price is the same for all the different brands phones. In the past, there's different pricing for Iphone/Samsung and etc. Glad that they standardize it now and it's much cheaper these days! I'm very sure it's around 500 baht 2 years back.

We quickly hop on to the cab and head to our hotel after we are done with purchasing the SIM card.

Anyway, even the cab system has changed lol. There used to be someone writing down the destination for you but now they have kiosk and you just need to press a number and wait for your cab lol.

The journey to the hotel took much longer than we expected. It took us more than an hour to reach the hotel due to the bad traffic jam near our hotel area. It's like a norm from 5pm onwards due to peak period. We had to push some of our itinerary items to the next day instead due to the lack of time.

As I had made dinner reservation, I was quite kan cheong to see the jam. Hence, I concluded next time I will prefer to reach there probably before noon! There's just too much errands to run on the first day.

As we booked our air ticket and hotel less than 2 months to the trip, there weren't much hotel option. Initially we wanted to book Glow Pratunam but it was fully booked :( Hence we sticked to Baiyoke Sky Hotel and I do hope that it's our last time staying there lol.

Some pictures of the hotel room before we dashed out of the hotel..

The view from the room. Nothing much and I can't really figure out where we are facing lol.

Anyway, we headed to Amari Watergate hotel straight. We had quite a bit of stuff to settle at Alex Fashion.

It's probably 10 minutes walk from Baiyoke Sky (that's provided there wasn't much crowd at pratunam market)

2nd level of Amari Watergate is full of tailors!

We managed to settle all the altering/ordering of shirt/suit/pants at Alex Fashion within an hour. It's quite record breaking because we used to spend much more time there during our first trip there. We were more well prepared this time round.

We had around an hour left before our dinner reservation. Our dinner place is @ Groove which is just next to Central World. We passed by Central World and since we had some time, we quickly went to check out Jelly Dreams. 2 years ago, Jelly Dreams weren't opened yet! It's located just opposite Naraya.

One can easily find many Singaporeans in that shop lol.

The Melissa shoes sold there were of cheaper price but sad to say, a lot of their sizes were out of stock :(  We went back the next few days and it's still the same. The Melissa shoes sold there were cheaper by at least 20% which explains why many of them were out of stock.

We headed to our dinner venue after the failed attempt of hunting down Melissa shoes. Our dinner venue is at Greyhound Cafe. They have a few branches in Bangkok but we chose to go to the one near Central World since it's more convenient for us.

The exterior of the restaurant.

And finally, we are having our first meal in Bangkok. Totally famished by then because we have been rushing from places to places.

Love what is written on it.

We were served with appetizers after they took our orders.

I ordered the Thai Iced Milk Tea :) While Derp has his boring sprite lol.

My mains: Pound Shrimp Fried Rice - 180 Baht

A not bad dish which taste like the fried rice served in Thai Express just that the salted egg taste quite weird. I've no idea why they included it in this dish too. In my opinion, it's quite off.

Greyhound Famous Fried Chicken Wings - 110 Baht

A trip to Greyhound cafe is not complete without trying their chicken wings. It's super yummy!

Derp Mains: Thai-style Seafood Pasta

It may look harmless but it's actually very spicy and Derp likes it a lot. Even the basil used in this dish is very different from the one we had back in Singapore.

The waitress helped us to take a pic but somehow the lighting is very weird so I deleted that photo. It's actually due to where we are sitting. In the end, we helped each other to take photo instead lol.

Us with the almost finish Thai Iced Milk Tea..

The dining experience at Greyhound Cafe was great. Their service is good and they actually served the wrong pasta to Derp and they quickly went to change it for us. Nothing to complain about as their food were great too :)

We will definitely go back there again especially for their chicken wings!
