2016 - New Balance Run On

The number 6th race of 2016 was the New Balance Run. It's a 7+ 1 km race meaning the first 7 km is mandatory for the finisher medal and the 1km is optional. If the additional 1km is completed, the runner will get an additional badge on top of the finisher medal :)

This is my very first time joining the New Balance Run ( I roughly remember they have something similar in the past). I do find the distance of the race 'just nice' and the race fees were affordable too hence I decided to sign up for it.

Race pack collection for New Balance Run On was held at SOTA (School of The Arts).  A very different place (from the other races) for race pack collection indeed.

There was a short queue when we reached there..

The queue moves quite fast though so we collected the racepack in a short while.

As Pokemon Go was just launched in Singapore at that period of time, we were actually busy catching pokemons so the time spend waiting for our turn pass by really fast.

The items in the racepack.

Basically, there's nothing much in the race pack. But I do love the color of the event top very much. It's one of my worn-to-death dry fit top till date :)

On race day itself, there wasn't any carparks available near to the race site (due to the race route and road closure) so we parked at Kallang stadium before boarding the race's shuttle bus from Kallang Mrt to the race site.

I can't remember what was the exact flag off time but we were there way too early. In the end, we got sun burned from simply standing at the start line waiting for flag off. It was a mad hot day which probably made the race the hottest race in 2016.

Waiting under the scorching sun..

Us waiting for the race to start. Can totally see how sunny the weather is..

Because the flag off was much later then expected, I started to login to Pokemon Go to see if there's any pokemons for me to catch anot lol.

And I was totally in shock when I saw this..haha!

Started checking the radar and realized it will be there for another 10 mins. After some analysis, we only have a few minutes to catch the dragonite after flag off. It's actually around 100 meters away after the flag off point. So near yet so far and that was when everyone was hoping the flag off could be faster.

Finally saw it appearing once we ran pass the flag off point..

Many other runners noticed the dragonite too and infact, lots of runners took the chance to clock some mileage to hatch their 'egg' during this run.

Ran pass the famous MBS pokestops and there's lots of lure deployed around MBS area. This is ongoing even up till today I guess? haha!

The sunset that day was simply glorious and beautiful :)

This has since become my handphone's screen saver picture. Indeed our beautiful home.

Almost reaching the ending point..

Due to the very hot weather, after reaching the 7km mark, I start to walk for the remaining 1km to be awarded the extra badge.

To be honest, this is a very challenging race and I wasn't able to perform to the normal standard. But oh well, 'listen to your body' is more important than breaking the personal best timing. Catching pokemons along the way is also a form of exercise right? haha!

Yay to completing the race!

Us with the free ice cream. Totally need it especially in that weather.

The welfare of the race was really good. There were other freebies too but we only took the ice cream.

A pic with our friends who also joined this race :)

The only picture of us from Running Shot.

This picture capture how engrossed I'm in catching pokemons while running and Derp is probably stoning? lol.

Kudos to the organizer for making the race affordable and the entitlements doesn't lose out to other races despite it's registration fee being lower than them.

No idea if I will join the next New Balance Run but it was a pleasant experience other than the very hot weather. Perhaps they could make the race a night /morning race instead of a evening one. I believe it will be a better race experience :)
